Milan – Maximalistic living at Hotel Vittoria
When I was researching where to stay in Milan I came across Hotel Vittoria. Hotel Vittoria is a small 4 star hotel near the city center of Milan and is quote “designed for demanding customers who are attentive to comfort but also practical and dynamic who do not want to give up the convenience of being in the real center of Milan.”
Now I don´t know if I see my self as an especially demanding customer but I AM a lover of maximalistic interior design! So when I saw pictures of Hotel Vittorias maximalistic design choices, I really hoped they would have free rooms.
Arriving at Hotel Vittoria
From the outside you could never guess that the hotel looks the way it does on the inside. From the outside it just looks like any other hotel. But as soon as you step into the small reception area you are transferred into a different world.

A statue of Victoria, the winged goddess of victory greets you from a niche on the wall. Paintings with thick golden frames hang on the wall and the happy man behind the reception wishes you welcome. The interior decoration style here is like a mix of classical European styles and shows traces of baroque, rococo and victorian aesthetics. The warm colors and lighting makes the hotel feel cozy.
The Roman goddess Victoria is the equivalent of the Greek goddess Nike
The room
Maybe it was that I was tired or maybe it was the yellow lighting or the patterns in the carpet. But the hallway leading to my room reminded me of the corridor in the movie the Shining! Luckily the room was very clean and nice and had a kettle which I as a tea lover appreciate 🙂
The breakfast
In the morning I took the elevator to the breakfast room and here is the real maximalist heart of the hotel! Warm lighting, quirky furniture, statues, long heavy curtains, flowers and pillows and a fire in the fireplace!
I love these bronze lamps with the red lampshades!
The breakfast buffé was nice and I loved to eat it in the colorful surroundings and watch my fellow tourists.
The interior design
After I got home from Milan, I emailed the hotel to ask about the designer behind the interior design. Did they intentionally design the hotel like this or did things just accumulate over the years to become this eclectic mix?
To my happiness the hotel replied to my email.
“Actually our hotel is really old so the furnitures in the beginning were planned to be just classy and then it became our strong point and now we renovate keeping the same style.
We are looking forward to welcome you again!”
Recommend or do not recommend?
I recommend Hotel Vittoria for people who like comfort and maximalistic interior design. If you are a friend of the white/beige scandinavian style of hotel – this place is not for you!
